Projects

For my project, I wanted to share with everyone something really special to me, something that is part of identity and personality. I'm sharing a beautiful video I took on my last visit to Tripoli, Lebanon, during the winter break of 2020. The video was taken at sunset, sunset is typically the time of the Muslim fourth prayer of the day. (Muslims have five prayers a day).  In the video, you can hear the beautiful Islamic Adhan (Islamic call to prayer.) The Adhan is recited by the Muadhan (Priest). People there start heading to Masjids (Mosques) as soon as they hear the prayer call.

This video means a lot to me, it reminds me who I am, it emphasizes the Islamic values of peace and mercy. The Islamic call to prayer is for all to enjoy it. It sets the rhythm of the day for everyone, it is a reminder for everyone to leave their worldly activities and to find some time to pray to God, the Creator. it is a reminder to all of you to think past their mortal lives. It also reminds me of the city I lived in for many years. Tripoli was my second home, and I had many wonderful memories there. The video shares a piece of my Muslim culture with others. Unfortunately, here in Sudbury, we cannot hear the Islamic call to prayer, however, when you hear it, it is very peaceful.

The video demonstrates the Islamic call to prayer. The video was taken at the Mansouri Great Mosque located in Tripoli, Lebanon. The mosque was built in the Mamluk period from 1294 to 1314. It took nearly 20 years to build the mosque.
